The Division


Barclay Simpson has been recruiting in the United States since 2012. From our offices in Midtown Manhattan we operate within the following markets: Internal & IT Audit; Risk Management; Information & Cyber Security; Compliance. The US division was the second highest division company-wide in 2017 in terms of net fee income and is forecast to produce 25% revenue growth in 2018 on 2017.   


Barclay Simpson USA is seeking a leader and growth agent for our U.S. Compliance Recruitment offering. Barclay Simpson already has a team of c. 10 Compliance & Legal Recruiters in the U.K. and Europe – we are seeking to leverage this established global Compliance Recruitment Brand, along with our enviable Financial Services client portfolio and established Compliance relationships in the U.S., to launch an exciting Compliance offering in the Americas.


This is a priority hire for us – the successful candidate will be responsible for developing a full business plan for penetration of this market, and taking a lead on revenue generation. You will also hire a team of Consultants to further develop this market alongside you.


As part of your business plan you will determine the client and candidate acquisition strategy across banking and financial services, and across vertical disciplines within financial crime compliance and regulatory compliance. Longer term we will look to have both permanent and contract revenue streams in this market, and are eager to explore opportunities to sell retained search projects at the senior end. We recruit from AVP level all the way through to senior hires and MD positions and have agreed terms with a wide range of clients including a number of major U.S. firms and global non-domestic banks. 


The team in New York is high-performing and supportive, with a strong focus on the success of the business, so someone who is able to embody Barclay Simpson values and collaborate well with others is essential. 


The Role


Based in Midtown New York, day to day responsibilities of this role will include:


  • Leading the growth of the Compliance division for Barclay Simpson in the U.S., developing a business plan and clear strategy for this start-up division

  • Delivering a personal revenue line to support future growth of the division.

  • Hiring Consultants to work alongside you, coaching and mentoring for success.

  • Developing a high-quality portfolio of clients and a first-rate pool of candidates using recruitment business development techniques, a thorough marketing strategy, networking and relationship management.

  • Writing adverts, content for market reports and other marketing paraphernalia, and supporting the delivery of events within the Compliance space

  • Working closely with colleagues in the team to effectively cross-sell and deliver a “joined-up” approach to clients 

  • Managing and coaching interns who support our work on a day-to-day basis.


    We have a number of client relationships and terms in place that can be leveraged for Compliance, so the business development need is to both “hunt” for new clients and “farm” existing ones.


    As a growing office we are keen for people to develop with us – we have a clearly defined career pathway with promotional opportunities and, in the medium-term, opportunities to build out new areas, manage more staff as we add headcount, and contribute to the infrastructure and development of the office in a variety of other ways.


The Candidate


The successful candidate will have the following attributes:


  • Experience working in a recruitment agency, ideally in a 360 “full-desk” role.

  • Working knowledge of sales recruitment or search within financial crime compliance and/or regulatory compliance highly preferred. Legal recruitment experience would also be considered.

  • Candidates will be comfortable with business development and have demonstrated success in this area.

  • Likewise, given the profile of some of our existing accounts, an uncompromising approach to client delivery and account management is essential.

  • Candidates will either have had experience of managing staff within a recruitment setting or show a strong aptitude for management and development of others.

  • Strong attention to detail regarding system usage and sharing data.   

  • Strong, genuine team-player who enjoys a collaborative approach.
