The Division


Barclay Simpson has been recruiting in the United States since 2012. From our offices in Midtown Manhattan we operate within the following markets: Internal & IT Audit; Risk Management; Information & Cyber Security; Compliance. The US division was the second highest division company-wide in 2017 in terms of net fee income. 


Barclay Simpson USA has had a dedicated Risk Management recruitment team since 2015 specializing in Market Risk, Credit Risk, Quantitative & Model Risk and Operational Risk Management disciplines. We have an established group of core clients in Banking & Financial Services from AVP level all the way through to senior hires and MD positions. We have agreed terms with a wide range of clients including a number of major U.S. firms and global non domestic banks. 


We have ambitious plans for the growth of the Risk Management function, which we see as a key pillar of our offering in the United States. The person we hire will be instrumental in joining our established proposition and supporting growth activities including winning new clients, optimising our candidate pool and enhancing the quality of our offering.

The Role


This Graduate/Trainee Recruitment Consultant role will benefit from a full program of desk-level and formal training across all aspects of the recruitment cycle. Working with a Team Manager and the Regional Director, as well as other more experienced team members, you will be exposed at a gradual yet challenging pace to candidate generation, business development, market research and direct and indirect marketing approaches. Our Consultants pride themselves in their expert, consultative approach so you will be immersed in your specialist area to the point where you will be able to have credible and informed conversations with senior stakeholders.


Based in Midtown New York, other day to day responsibilities will include the following:


  • Developing a high-quality pool of candidates to send to clients using marketing, social media and networking approaches. Under the guidance of a Team Manager, call candidates to ascertain their interest in exploring the U.S. market, or in specific roles Barclay Simpson is recruiting.

  • Mapping the market, researching the industry to gain a clear understanding of client businesses, organization structures and recruitment requirements.

  • Over time supporting the growth of the risk management desk by winning clients and new business from existing ones

  • Writing adverts, content for market reports and other marketing paraphernalia, and supporting the delivery of events within the Risk Management space

  • Working closely with colleagues in the team to effectively cross-sell and deliver a “joined-up” approach to clients 

  • Assist in direct marketing efforts where appropriate, including sending out mailers and other collateral under the guidance of the Team Manager and Regional Director.     

  • Assisting in the administration of Barclay Simpson’s in-house database (Profile) and in the recording and managing of candidate data, ensuring all candidates spoken to are appropriately coded and activated. Ensuring candidate CVs are correctly formatted.

  • Attend interviews and client meetings where appropriate with Team Managers.


Previous graduates hired by Barclay Simpson have gone on to have great success with us as a result of our solid training and development approach and most become fully-fledged Associate Consultants within 1-2 years.
