The Division


Barclay Simpson has been recruiting in the United States since 2012. From our offices in Midtown Manhattan we operate within the following markets: Internal & IT Audit; Risk Management; Information & Cyber Security; Compliance. The US division was the second highest division company-wide in 2017 in terms of net fee income and is forecast to produce 30%+ revenue growth in 2018 on 2017.   


Barclay Simpson USA recently appointed a Head of Compliance Recruitment in our New York office and we are seeking a Consultant to come and work alongside this person to help develop this market. Barclay Simpson already has a team of c. 10 Compliance & Legal Recruiters in the U.K. and Europe – we are seeking to leverage this established global Compliance Recruitment Brand, along with our enviable Financial Services client portfolio and established Compliance relationships in the U.S., to launch an exciting Compliance offering in the Americas.


Since the financial crisis Compliance has been a significant growth area within financial services as banks and other firms have attempt to remediate their exposure by hiring sizeable compliance teams and senior level talent under the watchful eyes of the regulators. Barclay Simpson has an extremely strong reputation within Financial Services, Banking and Asset Management and we recruit from AVP level all the way through to senior hires and MD positions. We have agreed terms with a wide range of clients including a number of major U.S. firms and global non domestic banks. 


We have ambitious plans for the growth of the Compliance function. The person we hire will be instrumental in helping to establish our proposition and supporting its growth by winning new clients, optimising our candidate pool and enhancing the quality of our offering. Future revenue channels for



exploration include permanent and contract recruitment, legal recruitment, as well as other areas of financial services compliance hiring.


The wider U.S. team is close-knit and supportive, with a strong focus on success, so someone who is able to embody Barclay Simpson values and collaborate well with others is essential. 


The Role


Based in Midtown New York, the day to day responsibilities will include:


  • Supporting the growth of the Compliance Recruitment desk by winning clients and developing new business from existing ones

  • Developing a high-quality pool of candidates to send to clients using marketing, social media and networking approaches

  • Writing adverts, content for market reports and other marketing paraphernalia, and supporting the delivery of events within the Compliance space

  • Working closely with colleagues in the team to effectively cross-sell and deliver a “joined-up” approach to clients 

  • Working closely with and coaching interns who support our work on a day-to-day basis


    We have a number of client relationships and terms in place that can be leveraged for Compliance, so the business development need is to both “hunt” for new clients and “farm” existing ones.


    As a growing office we are keen for people to develop with us – a successful Consultant can expect both promotional opportunities and, in the medium-term, opportunities to build out new areas, manage more junior staff as we add headcount, and contribute to the infrastructure and development of the office in a variety of other ways.  


The Candidate


The successful candidate will have the following attributes:


  • Experience of working in a 360 “full-desk” role.

  • Previous experience of Compliance or Legal Recruitment would be ideal, but we would be open to strong individuals from other professional disciplines

  • Candidates will have a strong track record of business development and should be able to demonstrate previous success in this area at interview.

  • Likewise, given the profile of some of our existing accounts, an uncompromising approach to client delivery and account management is essential.

  • Strong attention to detail regarding system usage and sharing data.  

  • Strong, genuine team-player who enjoys a collaborative approach.
