What is recruitment and what can it offer? 

The most basic explanation of what a recruitment consultant does is that they are paid by a client for finding them an employee.  It is, however, rather more involved than that.  A full-service Recruitment Consultant will engage in a wide variety of activities, from meeting clients and winning recruitment assignments on which to work, researching their markets and identifying excellent candidates, interviewing those candidates, and managing the subsequent interview process with the client, negotiating an offer and overseeing the on-boarding process for a successful candidate. 

What skills will you develop as a Recruitment Consultant? 

Recruitment Consultants effectively run their own businesses, and therefore have to become skilled in a range of activities including marketing, advertising, direct sales, market research, presentation, communication, negotiation, management and ultimately leadership. There are few other careers where you will employ such a diverse set of skills.

At the graduate level there is no set profile for the people that we seek. What we do want is for people to embrace our values of collaboration, integrity, quality, passion and commerciality. The minimum requirement is that you are a graduate who thrives in a team environment, who can communicate credibility and demonstrate a desire to succeed. 

Our training?

Every year we hire graduates globally – our graduate program is well-established in the United States and has yielded high-performing Consultants who have gone on to be promoted rapidly. The program develops – in theory and in practice – the key skills that you will be invaluable to your career as a recruiter and the tools and techniques you will need to deliver a quality service to clients and candidates. Throughout your first six months training is delivered in peer group workshops, formal training sessions and direct one on one coaching. Our aim is to give you the best grounding possible to allow you to thrive right from the start of your career with us.

Interested in our Internship Program? 

Every year Barclay Simpson Executive Search Inc. selects a small number of interns to come and work with us in our Midtown New York offices. The program is designed for individuals who are interested in a career in recruitment and would like to get some grounding in the industry to find out more, individuals who have a general interest in business and would like to understand more about the world of recruitment and HR, and individuals who have a specific interest in exploring a career in one of the markets we recruit into and would like to get an insider view on these industries. Whichever category you fall into we would be interested to hear from you. We offer flexible paid working arrangements and even a discretionary bonus scheme for high performing interns. Our intern alumni have gone on to a varied range of careers – including being hired by Barclay Simpson upon graduation!
